Artillery Complex - CKIQ (SKIF)'s No. 213

A 122mm howitzer was adopted in the Armed Forces in 1960. Its design pattern was a new one : it had three trails instead of the usual two trails; the running gear was installed on the upper mount and there was a lifting jack for lifting and lowering the gun when shifting it from one position to another. The method of transporting the howitzer is also unusual. It is transported with its barrel looking forward. The time of shifting the gun from the transportation position to the firing one is 1.5 - 2.5 min. The separation angle of the two movable trails with regard to the immobile one can be 120 degrees in the firing position. The movable trails are fastened to the immovable one for transportation. It is then connected to the barrel at its muzzle part with a special frame.

The ammunition supply consist of 32 rounds of separate-loading. One of the means of transportation which conveys the howitzer with ammunition supply to a firing position is the "MT-LB" armoured prime-mover. It was produced at tractor plant in Kharkov and was designed for transportation of ammunition and medium field artillery. It was adopted in 1964.

Aggregates for power transmission control section and "TKB-01-1" outfit are located in the special section within the central part of the frame. The other part of the frame is used for allocation of people and load.
4 fuel tanks are located in the load platform section. The frame is made of steel; it's whole welded, water-resistant, has water displacement that makes it possible for armoured troop-carrier prime mover to keep afloat with the nominal carrying capacity. Running gear consists of caterpillar propelling agent and hanger bracket. Caterpillar propelling agent consist of 2 caterpillars, 2 driving sprockets, 2 guide wheels and 12 bearing rollers. Caterpillars are made of metal; they have small links, each of them consist of 108 tracks.
The hanger bracket independent and torsion. Turret "TKB-01-1" device for "NKT" machine-gun is designed for increasing of fire opportunities.
The "MT-LB" is powered by 4-stroke diesel engine. The engine power is 176kW (240 hp.)
