The German medium tank Panzer III was developed by Daimler Benz in 1936, production started in 1937. The Panzer III became the backbone of the German Army in the early stages of the war, such as the Polish campaign and the war with Soviet Union including the battles of Moscow and Stalingrad. The early Panzer III Ausf. F had a 3.7 cm main gun with 131 cartridges and two 7.92 mm machine guns, the later production lots were equipped with a 5 cm gun. The Pz II series had many variants with different armament including the famous Stug III assault guns.
