Sturmpanzer IV - Sd.Kfz.166 "Brummbar" - CMK's No. T 35007

Sturmpanzer IV - Sd.Kfz.166 "Brummbar" Early Version
Based on German's experiences of Eastern campaign;s early stage and Stalingrad's seige the heavily armoured assault gun named Brummbar was developed. With its 150 mm caliber howitzer 43 L/12 it was able to destroy large buildings held by the enemy. Ammunition of 75 and 105 mm guns wasn't effective enough. The above arms were used during 1942 on StuG III self propelled guns, remade from on that time widely used PzKpfw III. By this time, however, the PzKpfw IV was becoming the most important of the German tanks. At the end of 1942 the decision was made to incorporate the 150 mm howitzer SiG 33 into the PzKpfw IV chassis. This vehicle was designated Sturmpanzer IV and even during the Stalingrad fighting a pre-production series of 12 vehicles was tested (this being the kit's version). The howitzer was further modified and received the designation Strumhaubitze 43 L/12.

The vehicle was massively armoured, 100 mm on the front plate. The supersturcture was 70 mm, and the back 78 mm thick. The weight grew from 22 tons of the standard PzKpfw IV to Brummbar's 30.4 tons. The lack of machine gun of the first vehicles proved to be a serious disadvantage in the close range street fights. At the end of war a less weighed series of this Sturmpanzers was released. Until the end of WWII a total of 313 Brummbars was released.
